(RIVERSIDE, Calif.) — Lawyers for a gay rights group have asked a federal judge to impose an injunction halting what they call the military's unconstitutional "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
Log Cabin Republicans lawyer Dan Woods made the request during closing arguments Friday in the federal trial in Riverside.
Woods told Judge Virginia A. Phillips the 19,000-member group is calling out the government, saying the policy wrongly affects homosexuals who want to serve their country. He says it's time to do what's right for gays in the military.
The government will make its closing arguments later Friday after the two-week trial.
